Why Sterilise my pet?
As pet owners we all have different reasons that motivate us to ensure our pet’s are desexed. As vets we are mainly concerned with the individual health and social benefits neutering promotes.
Opinions can be divided on what age and what type of desexing procedure should be undertaken. Our veterinarians will tailor a plan to suit you and your individual pets’ circumstances.
- Reduced roaming and aggressive sexual behaviours
- Reduced unwanted litters
- Reduced Urine spraying and unwanted sexual behaviour
- Reduced risk of certain diseases
Updated Age recommendations!
- The age you pet reaches its adult size is the best guide
- Cats and most small breed dogs 6 months is considered ideal
- Larger dog breeds have some individual variation though 8-12 months is ideal for most
- Exceptions to the rule include Dobermans, Great Danes and Labradors, where some are recommended beyond 2 years and others where age doesn't play much influence. Your veterinarian can discuss the science and practicality behind the age that is best for you and your pet
